Quickstart

Get Humagician live on your Shopify store in under 10 minutes.

This walkthrough takes you from a fresh signup to your first AI-handled conversation. Allow ~10 minutes.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A Shopify store you own (any plan works)
  • An email you can verify
  • 5 minutes of your store's product copy or FAQs handy — even a few sentences helps Huey learn fast

1. Create your workspace

  1. Sign up

Visit app.humagician.com and create an account. Verify your email.

  2. Name your workspace

A workspace is one logical store + team. Most merchants have one; agencies use several. You can rename later in Settings → Workspace.

  3. Invite teammates (optional)

Add operators in Workspace → Team. They'll get an invite email and show up as available agents in your chat queue.

2. Connect Shopify

  1. Install the app

From your workspace dashboard, click Connect Shopify. You'll be redirected to Shopify's OAuth page.

  2. Authorize

Approve the requested scopes. Humagician routes Shopify API calls through BRAM, our governance layer — per-merchant access tokens never persist outside your tenant.

  3. Confirm

Back in Humagician, you'll see a green Connected badge under Operations → Integrations.

Need to use a different helpdesk (Gorgias, Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom)? See Helpdesk integrations.

3. Configure your chat widget

Go to Settings → Widgets. Set:

  • Title — what shoppers see at the top of the bubble (e.g. "Chat with us")
  • AI display name — defaults to Huey, but use your own name if you'd like (Maya, Otto, etc.)
  • Greeting — the first message visitors see (e.g. "Hi! Need help finding the right snowboard?")
  • Auto-engage — toggle on if you want Huey to proactively pop up after a few seconds on a product page

The widget script is auto-injected via the Shopify app — no theme code edits needed.

4. Teach Huey about your store

Go to Librarian → Knowledge Base. Add a few entries:

  • Returns policy — your full returns/exchange terms
  • Shipping info — carriers, transit times, costs
  • Sizing / fit — if relevant (apparel, footwear, gear)
  • Brand voice — short note: "Friendly, snowboarder slang OK, never use exclamation points more than once per reply"

Each entry is a short markdown doc. Huey reads all of them on every conversation, so keep them tight and specific.

The fastest way to seed your KB is to copy your existing FAQ page or store policies. You can refine after Huey has a few real conversations under its belt.

5. Test it live

Open your store in an incognito window. The chat bubble should appear bottom-right. Try asking:

  • "What's your return policy?"
  • "Do you have any snowboards under $500?"
  • "My order #1042 hasn't shipped yet — can you check?"

Huey should pull from your KB for the policy question, do a Shopify product search for the second, and look up the order for the third. All three responses surface in your operator console at /chat so you can take over if needed.

6. Set up your team

  1. Invite operators

Workspace → TeamInvite. Choose role (admin / operator / viewer).

  2. Assign coverage windows (optional)

Each operator can set their availability in Account → Notifications. Out-of-hours conversations stay with Huey or queue to email.

  3. Set escalation rules

In Support → Rules, define when Huey should hand off to a human (e.g. "Always escalate refund requests over $200").

You're live

That's it — Humagician is now on your store. From here:

Stuck? Click the Huey chat button at the bottom of any page in the app. Huey can answer "where do I configure X" and pull live data from your workspace.
